About the President & Founder

Ms. Janet L. Bynum is a retired educator of students in kindergarten to sixth grade. Her vision to empower and equip students to be successful in school and life served as a guide during her 33 years as a conscientious educator in public education and four and a half years in parochial education. She taught her students that they were vital partners in their education, and encouraged them to pray and seek God for strength and understanding of the tasks for the day.

During her career as an educator, Ms. Bynum served as a Literacy Coach and Reading First Coach for nine years, and received her Principal Certification and certificate to teach Gifted Students. She eagerly accepted opportunities to promote and foster academic success. One way she did this was by serving as a Cooperating Teacher for student teachers in Duquesne University, Point Park University, and other universities and colleges.

Janet Bynum is director of Vacation Bible School (VBS) at Brown Chapel AME Church. Designing and writing her church’s VBS curriculum, Janet implemented the skills learned and taught within her 37½ years in education. Teaching Vacation Bible School gave Ms. Bynum an opportunity to not only share the Word of God, but also to encourage and stress the importance of education to the community’s students.

Ms. Bynum is the founder and CEO of Hazel’s Corner - Children’s Bookstore which opened in 2022 in honor of her mother Mrs. Hazel L. Vereen-Bynum. “Just pray” is the advice she received from her mother. Those words will remain with her throughout her life.
